Health and Safety Officer - Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Health and Safety Officer to join their mining operations based near Reading . This role is critical for maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations across the mine site. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments, and delivering training to staff. This is an essential position for ensuring the well-being of all personnel and promoting a robust safety culture within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety management systems and procedures.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for all employees and contractors.
• Advise management on health and safety matters and contribute to the development of safety policies.
• Maintain accurate health and safety records and prepare relevant reports for regulatory bodies and senior management.

Requirements

• NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Health and Safety role, preferably within the mining, construction, or heavy industry sector.
• In-depth knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation and best practices.
• Experience in conducting risk assessments and developing safety procedures.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
• Ability to remain calm and decisive in emergency situations.
