HV Engineer - up to 400kV North West / UK-wide travel Circa £70,000+ (DOE)

If you are an HV Engineer looking to work on major high-voltage infrastructure projects across the water and energy sectors, this is an opportunity to join a growing programme of substation upgrades, modifications and reinforcement works operating to 400kV.

Major infrastructure, varied projects

My client is supporting significant HV upgrade programmes across the UK, including AMP8 works for  in the North West and National Grid Electricity Distribution substation projects.

As an HV Engineer, you will be working across a varied portfolio rather than being tied to one type of installation. You will be involved with upgrades and modifications to HV substations and associated electrical infrastructure up to 400kV.

What you will be doing

You will support the safe delivery of HV projects from planning and preparation through to implementation and completion.

You will be doing work including HV substation upgrades and modifications, supporting switching and isolation activities, coordinating with project and site teams, ensuring works are completed in accordance with relevant electrical safety rules and procedures, and providing technical input throughout project delivery.

You will also work across multiple client and project environments, so you will need to be comfortable travelling to sites across the UK when required.

What you will need

To be considered for this HV Engineer position, you will need demonstrable experience working within high-voltage electrical environments.

You will need experience across HV substations, upgrades or modifications and a strong understanding of HV safety procedures. An NGED Competent Person authorisation is required as a minimum, with additional HV authorisations or experience operating at higher voltage levels highly desirable. Experience working across voltage levels from 6.6kV upwards would be beneficial, particularly if you have exposure to 132kV, 275kV or 400kV infrastructure. You will also need to be flexible regarding UK-wide travel, although a significant proportion of the AMP8 programme will be focused across the North West. Package and flexibility

For a permanent HV Engineer, my client is currently considering salaries around £70,000+, dependent on experience, but there is flexibility for candidates whose experience, competencies and authorisations command a higher market rate.

This is an opportunity to build long-term experience across major UK utility and electricity distribution programmes, working on technically varied HV projects rather than one repetitive workstream.
