Horticultural Operations Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and dynamic Horticultural Operations Manager to lead their nursery and growing operations near Norwich, Norfolk . This role is critical for ensuring the successful cultivation, propagation, and dispatch of high-quality plants. You will manage all aspects of the growing process, oversee a team of horticulturalists and nursery staff, and implement efficient production strategies to meet demand and maintain profitability. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of horticultural science, strong leadership skills, and a passion for producing exceptional plant stock.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all daily horticultural activities, including propagation, planting, cultivation, and pest/disease management.
• Develop and implement crop production plans to optimize yield, quality, and resource utilization.
• Manage and mentor a team of horticultural staff, providing training and performance guidance.
• Ensure adherence to strict quality control standards throughout the growing process.
• Manage inventory of plants, growing media, fertilizers, and other horticultural supplies.
• Oversee the implementation of irrigation systems and environmental controls (e.g., temperature, humidity).
• Coordinate plant dispatch to ensure timely and efficient delivery to customers.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field.
• Significant experience in a horticultural management or supervisory role, ideally within a commercial nursery or large-scale growing operation.
• In-depth knowledge of plant propagation, cultivation techniques, and integrated pest management (IPM).
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
• Strong understanding of nursery operations, logistics, and quality control.
• Familiarity with horticultural technology and irrigation systems.
