Horticulturalist - Estate Management

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and passionate Horticulturalist to oversee the extensive gardens and grounds of a prestigious estate near Cardiff . This role involves the planning, cultivation, and maintenance of diverse plant collections, ensuring the aesthetic beauty and ecological health of the landscape. You will lead a small team of groundskeepers, applying your expertise in horticultural practices to manage everything from formal gardens to naturalistic areas. The successful candidate will be dedicated to upholding the highest standards of horticultural excellence and contributing to the preservation and enhancement of this significant green space, working within a team committed to preserving natural beauty and heritage.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute seasonal planting schemes for flower beds, borders, and shrubbery.
• Manage and maintain lawns, trees, hedges, and other landscape features to a high standard.
• Oversee the care and propagation of a diverse range of plants, including specialist collections.
• Supervise and train gardening staff, assigning tasks and monitoring performance.
• Implement pest and disease control measures using integrated and sustainable methods.
• Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of all horticultural equipment and irrigation systems.

Requirements

• A recognized qualification in Horticulture, Landscape Management, or a related field.
• Significant practical experience in professional horticulture, ideally within an estate or large garden setting.
• Strong knowledge of plant identification, cultivation, and care.
• Experience in team leadership and grounds maintenance.
• Proficiency with horticultural machinery and an understanding of health and safety regulations.
