About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Horticulturalist with a specialization in Viticulture to join their team in the renowned wine-producing region near Glasgow . This role is integral to cultivating and maintaining high-quality grapevines that form the basis of premium wines. You will be responsible for all aspects of vineyard management, from soil preparation and planting to canopy management, pest control, and harvesting. This hands-on position offers a unique opportunity to work in a beautiful setting, apply expert horticultural knowledge, and contribute to the production of exceptional Scottish wines.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all vineyard operations, including planting, pruning, trellising, and canopy management.
- Monitor vine health, identify pests and diseases, and implement appropriate control measures using sustainable practices.
- Oversee irrigation systems and ensure optimal water management for vine growth.
- Manage harvest operations, ensuring grapes are picked at optimal ripeness and quality.
- Maintain vineyard records, including growth, yield, and treatment applications.
- Collaborate with winemakers to understand grape quality requirements and achieve desired wine profiles.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Horticulture, Viticulture, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Proven experience in vineyard management and grape cultivation.
- Strong understanding of vine physiology, grape varietals, and wine production.
- Knowledge of sustainable and organic viticultural practices.
- Ability to operate and maintain vineyard equipment.
- Physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
