Infection Control Specialist (Cleaning Focus)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Infection Control Specialist with a strong emphasis on cleaning and sanitation protocols to join their team in Edinburgh . This critical role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring strategies to prevent the spread of infections within their facilities, with a particular focus on environmental cleaning and disinfection. You will work closely with facilities management, clinical staff (if applicable), and cleaning teams to ensure the highest standards of hygiene are maintained. This position requires a deep understanding of infection prevention principles and their practical application in cleaning services.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement evidence-based infection control policies and procedures, with a focus on environmental cleaning.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and audits of cleaning practices to ensure compliance and identify potential hazards.
• Provide expert advice and training to cleaning staff and other personnel on infection prevention and control measures.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of cleaning protocols, recommending and implementing improvements as needed.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest research, guidelines, and best practices in infection control and environmental hygiene.
• Investigate outbreaks or clusters of infections, recommending and implementing control measures.

Requirements

• Relevant professional qualification in Infection Prevention and Control or a related healthcare/environmental science field.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing infection control strategies, particularly in relation to cleaning and environmental services.
• Strong knowledge of microbiology, epidemiology, and disinfection techniques.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience with auditing and reporting on hygiene and infection control compliance.
