Information Security Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Information Security Engineer to join their dedicated security operations team based in Manchester . This hands-on role is integral to designing, implementing, and maintaining the technical security controls that protect the company's infrastructure and data. You will be responsible for deploying and managing security tools, responding to security incidents, and proactively identifying and mitigating potential threats. Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, and manage security infrastructure, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and endpoint protection solutions.
• Monitor network and system logs for security events, perform initial analysis, and escalate incidents as needed.
• Develop and automate security processes and workflows to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing, and coordinate remediation efforts.
• Collaborate with IT teams to ensure security is embedded in infrastructure design and deployment.
• Participate in incident response activities, including investigation, containment, eradication, and recovery.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a technical information security role, preferably as an engineer.
• Proficiency with security technologies such as firewalls, SIEM platforms, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption.
• Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S) and operating systems (Windows, Linux).
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation is a plus.
• Relevant certifications like CompTIA Security+, CEH, or CCNA Security are desirable.
