Information Security Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Information Security Engineer to join their expanding security operations centre in Birmingham . You will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and managing security controls and technologies that safeguard the organisation's infrastructure and data. This role requires a hands-on approach to cybersecurity, ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our client's systems. You will play a key part in proactively identifying and neutralising cyber threats, contributing to the resilience and security of our digital operations. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical foundation and a proactive mindset towards security challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain security infrastructure, including firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and endpoint security solutions.
• Configure and manage security monitoring tools, analyze logs, and investigate security alerts to detect and respond to threats.
• Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance with industry best practices and regulations.
• Perform regular security assessments and testing of systems and applications to identify vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate with IT teams to integrate security into the system development lifecycle and ensure secure configurations.
• Participate in incident response activities, including analysis, containment, eradication, and recovery.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in an information security engineering or related technical role.
• Proficiency in configuring and managing network security devices and security software.
• Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles, network protocols, and common attack vectors.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail in Birmingham .
