Intervention Support Worker – Sunderland Secondary Schools Competitive Daily Rates, Long-Term, ASAP Start

Teaching Personnel is recruiting an Intervention Support Worker for secondary schools across Sunderland, with positions available immediately. This is a targeted academic support role — distinct from a standard TA or SEND position — focused specifically on delivering structured interventions across core subjects for students who are falling behind and need focused, small group or 1:1 support to catch up.

You'll be working across English, Maths, and Science primarily, identifying gaps in student understanding and delivering focused sessions that give students the best possible chance of achieving strong outcomes at KS4. It's a role that suits someone with broad subject knowledge, a structured approach to learning, and the ability to make academic content accessible to students who have switched off from it.

What the role involves:

Delivering targeted academic interventions across core subjects on a 1:1 and small group basis Identifying gaps in student knowledge and adapting sessions accordingly Tracking and monitoring student progress and feeding back to subject teachers Supporting students working below age-related expectations across KS3 and KS4 Liaising with heads of department and the SENCO to ensure a joined-up approach Upholding safeguarding responsibilities at all times What we're looking for:

A strong academic background across core subjects — a degree or equivalent is desirable Experience delivering interventions or tutoring in a school setting Patient, structured, and confident working with students who find learning challenging Ability to motivate and re-engage students who have disengaged from academic work Enhanced DBS on the Update Service What Teaching Personnel offers:

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
