The IT Quality & Testing Engineer is a newly created position within the Academy's central services structure and will report directly to the Chief Transformation Officer.
The IT Quality & Testing Engineer will be responsible for designing, carrying out and maintaining testing and quality assurance processes for the Academy's software applications, digital platforms and IT systems.
The principal duties of the role will include:
- Designing, developing and executing test plans, test cases and test scripts for software applications and IT systems.
- Carrying out manual and automated testing, including functional, regression, integration, performance and security testing.
- Building and maintaining automated testing frameworks and scripts using appropriate industry-standard tools.
- Managing quality assurance testing for corporate IT services, including Microsoft 365, Exchange, SharePoint and endpoint deployments.
- Identifying, documenting and tracking software defects and system issues.
- Producing clear and detailed defect reports and working with developers and external IT providers to ensure issues are resolved.
- Establishing and maintaining quality assurance procedures, including testing coverage standards, defect management processes and release approval criteria.
- Carrying out security-focused testing and vulnerability assessments to identify potential weaknesses within the Academy's systems.
- Supporting the Academy's information security procedures and relevant IT standards, including ISO 27001 principles where applicable.
- Testing cloud-based applications and services operating within platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.
- Carrying out testing across Windows Server, Linux and VMware environments.
- Using SQL and other relevant tools to undertake data validation and back-end testing.
- Testing data security measures, encryption procedures, backup processes and disaster recovery arrangements.
- Preparing and maintaining testing documentation, test results, defect logs and quality performance reports.
- Working closely with management, software developers and external IT providers to ensure systems are fully tested before implementation or release.
- Providing technical support in resolving complex application and infrastructure quality issues identified during testing.
Skills, experience and qualifications required
The requirements for the position are:
- A master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or a related subject, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- A minimum of two years’ relevant experience in software, application or systems testing.
- Strong knowledge of manual and automated testing methodologies.
- Experience in functional, regression, integration, performance and security testing.
- Experience testing applications across web, mobile and tablet platforms.
- Experience building or maintaining automated testing frameworks and scripts.
- An understanding of SQL for data validation and back-end testing.
- Knowledge of security testing principles and methods for identifying system vulnerabilities.
- Experience testing cloud-based applications and services, including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud.
- Technical knowledge of Windows Server, Linux and VMware environments.
- Knowledge of data security, encryption, backup and disaster recovery testing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to prepare clear test plans, testing documentation and detailed defect reports.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with developers, project managers, management, staff and external providers.
