IT Security Engineer

About the Role

Our client is recruiting a proactive IT Security Engineer to enhance their security posture from their Sunderland location. This role is pivotal in designing, implementing, and maintaining the security infrastructure that protects the company's valuable data and systems. You will work closely with IT operations and development teams to embed security best practices throughout the technology lifecycle. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about technology, possesses strong technical skills in network and system security, and is committed to defending against emerging cyber threats in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage security solutions including firewalls, VPNs, and endpoint protection.
• Implement and maintain security monitoring tools and processes (e.g., SIEM).
• Conduct security assessments and vulnerability scans, providing remediation recommendations.
• Respond to security alerts and incidents, performing analysis and coordinating mitigation efforts.
• Develop and document security standards, procedures, and best practices.
• Provide technical guidance and support to other IT teams on security-related matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in IT security engineering or a similar role.
• Strong technical knowledge of network security, firewall management , and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Familiarity with operating system security (Windows, Linux) and cloud security principles (AWS, Azure).
• Experience with scripting for automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell) is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a commitment to continuous learning in cybersecurity.
