This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or postgraduate looking to begin a career in construction design management. You’ll gain hands-on experience supporting live projects, working alongside experienced design and project teams, and developing the technical and commercial skills needed to progress into a Design Manager role.
We offer clear, bespoke progression routes within a supportive and expanding organisation, making this an ideal role for someone who is keen to learn, take responsibility and build a long-term career within the construction industry.
The Role
As an Assistant Design Manager, you will support the wider design and project teams across a range of live projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
Assisting with the management and coordination of design information across projects
Supporting the preparation, review and coordination of drawings and technical information
Working with design information to ensure accuracy, consistency and buildability
Assisting with design reviews, technical queries and coordination between project teams, consultants and subcontractors
Helping to ensure designs meet project requirements, specifications and relevant standards
Supporting the Design Manager with drawing registers, design programmes and technical submissions
Reviewing drawings and identifying potential design issues, clashes and opportunities for improvement
Assisting with the preparation of client-ready design information and presentations
Working closely with project teams to meet deadlines across multiple live projects
Developing an understanding of construction methods, buildability and the commercial impact of design decisions
Gaining exposure to projects across commercial, residential, data centre and other specialist sectors
About You
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about construction and design and is keen to develop a career in Design Management.
Ideally, you will have:
A degree or postgraduate qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Architectural Technology, Engineering or a related discipline
A genuine interest in construction, design and the built environment
Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
Good communication and organisational skills
The ability to work collaboratively as part of a busy project team
A willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility
Confidence using Microsoft Office; knowledge of AutoCAD or other CAD software is desirable but not essential
The ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
A proactive, positive and professional attitude
No significant industry experience is required — this role is designed for a graduate/postgraduate looking to establish themselves within design management. Relevant placement, internship or site experience would be advantageous.
What’s on Offer
Competitive graduate-level salary, depending on experience
Full benefits package plus performance-related bonuses
Structured training and mentoring from experienced Design Managers
Bespoke progression routes tailored to your strengths and career goals
Clear opportunity to progress towards Design Manager and Senior Design Manager positions
Exposure to high-profile projects across commercial, residential, data centre and specialist sectors
A sociable, collaborative office environment
The opportunity to develop both technical and commercial construction knowledge
The chance to join a growing organisation with exciting long-term opportunities
If you’re a graduate or postgraduate looking to start a career in Design Management, and you’re motivated to learn, develop and take on responsibility within a dynamic and expanding construction business, we’d love to hear from you
