Job Description
A great opportunity to join a Commodities Trading Firm as a Junior DEAT Developer.
About the Role
Junior Developer — Digital Experience, Automation & Transformation (DEAT) Reports to: DEAT Lead We are establishing a new internal development team — Digital Experience, Automation and Transformation (DEAT) — and this is one of its founding roles. You'll work directly with the DEAT Lead building internal tools, automations and integrations on the Microsoft stack (Azure, Power Platform, Microsoft 365), taking real solutions from idea to live use. It's a hands-on, broad role: front-end, back-end, data and the conversations with the people who'll use what you build.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain applications, automations and integrations under the DEAT Lead's direction — using Python, Power Apps and Azure services.
- Develop clean, usable front-ends consistent with our brand standards.
- Work with APIs and data models to connect systems and consolidate data.
- Write clear, practical documentation — enough that someone else could pick up what you built.
- Follow the team's governance standards: source control, environment separation, data protection, release/review process.
- Talk to business users to understand a process before automating it, and gather feedback once it's live.
- Support solutions in production alongside building new ones.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- Hands-on experience using AI tools in your work — you actively use AI to build, learn and solve problems faster, and can tell the difference between output you should trust and output you should check.
- Relational data and SQL basics — tables, joins, keys.
- REST APIs and JSON — how they work, and the confidence to read API docs and try things.
- Clear written and verbal communication — you'll regularly explain technical things to non-technical colleagues.
- Evidence of building something, somewhere: a course or apprenticeship project, a personal project, a GitHub profile, an automation that made a previous job less tedious.
- Version control (Git/GitHub) — branching, commits, pull requests.
- A Python web framework — Flask or Django.
- CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar).
Preferred Skills
Creative problem solving. Most of what you'll build has no off-the-shelf answer — if it did, we'd have bought it. You'll work with imperfect data and systems that were never designed to talk to each other, and find a route through: reading documentation, prototyping small to test an idea, using AI-assisted development tools well, and dropping an approach that isn't working. Alongside that: straightforward to work with, honest about what you don't know, and reliable on the unglamorous parts — testing, documentation, following the process even when nobody's watching.
Pay range and compensation package
Genuine breadth — front-end, back-end, data, integration, cloud and the business conversation, not one narrow slice of a big pipeline. Direct mentoring from the DEAT Lead, with real ownership of your own workstreams. Visible work, used by real teams — some of it seen at senior level. A founding place in a new, growing capability.
Equal Opportunity Statement
We are committed to diversity and inclusivity.
