Job Title: KS3 SEND Teacher (Formal Pathway - SLD)
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire Start Date: ASAP Contract Type: Full-time, Long-term Rate: £140 - £220 per day (dependent on experience and responsibilities) Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm
About the School
This role is based within a KS3 Formal Pathway class, supporting pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). Pupils follow a structured curriculum that is adapted to meet their individual learning needs, with a strong focus on communication, functional skills, personal development, and preparation for adulthood.
The Role
As a KS3 SEND Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging, highly differentiated learning experiences for pupils with SLD. You will work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and families to ensure every pupil receives the support they need to make meaningful progress.
As a KS3 SEND Teacher, you will:
Plan and deliver creative, engaging lessons across the formal curriculum, adapted to meet the needs of pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties. Develop and implement individual learning programmes aligned to EHCP outcomes and personalised targets. Use a range of communication strategies, including visual supports, Makaton, symbols, and assistive communication tools where appropriate. Create a structured, positive, and stimulating learning environment that promotes independence, confidence, and engagement. Support pupils' social, emotional, communication, and life skills development alongside their academic progress.
What We're Looking For Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification. Experience teaching pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Complex Learning Needs, or within a specialist SEND setting. Strong understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning approaches. Knowledge of communication strategies including Makaton, PECS, AAC, or other alternative communication systems is desirable. Experience differentiating the KS3 curriculum to meet a wide range of learning abilities To Be Eligible, You Must:
