Laboratory Equipment Technician

About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous and technically skilled Laboratory Equipment Technician to join their renowned research facility in Cambridge . This role is essential for the proper functioning and maintenance of a wide array of scientific instruments and laboratory apparatus used by researchers. You will be responsible for the installation, calibration, routine maintenance, and repair of equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability for critical scientific experiments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical aptitude, a systematic approach to problem-solving, and a dedication to supporting the advanced research conducted at the facility, serving the Cambridgeshire area.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, set up, and calibrate new laboratory equipment according to manufacturer specifications and standard operating procedures.
• Perform regular preventative maintenance and servicing on a variety of scientific instruments (e.g., centrifuges, microscopes, spectrophotometers, analysers).
• Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions, ordering parts and coordinating with external service providers when necessary.
• Maintain detailed records of all maintenance, calibration, and repair activities.
• Ensure laboratory equipment is clean, safe, and compliant with relevant regulations.
• Provide basic training and support to laboratory staff on the correct operation and care of equipment.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a technical role maintaining and repairing scientific or electronic equipment.
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical principles.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and calibration procedures.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and test equipment.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Located in or able to commute reliably to Cambridge and surrounding areas.
