About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and certified Lead Air Traffic Controller to join their established team at a major UK airport serving Newcastle upon Tyne . In this critical leadership role, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the control tower, ensuring the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic. You will lead and mentor a team of air traffic controllers, uphold the highest safety standards, and contribute to strategic planning for airspace management and operational efficiency, playing a vital role in the safe operation of one of the region's key aviation hubs.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct the activities of air traffic controllers, ensuring adherence to all procedures and regulations.
• Manage and coordinate the flow of aircraft movements within the assigned airspace, including arrivals, departures, and overflights.
• Respond effectively to emergency situations and unusual conditions, implementing appropriate contingency plans.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing training and development for the ATC team.
• Ensure the effective use of surveillance and communication equipment, reporting any technical issues promptly.
• Collaborate with airline operations, airport management, and regulatory authorities on airspace optimisation and safety initiatives.

Requirements

• Valid Air Traffic Controller license with relevant ratings (Aerodrome, Approach, Area Control).
• Significant experience in air traffic control, with proven leadership or supervisory experience.
• Thorough knowledge of ATC procedures, aviation legislation, and meteorological conditions impacting flight operations.
• Excellent decision-making skills, situational awareness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Proficiency in using modern ATC systems, radar displays, and communication technologies.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a team.
