Lead Automotive Performance Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Automotive Performance Engineer to spearhead their engineering efforts in Newcastle upon Tyne . This leadership role involves overseeing the development and optimization of vehicle performance systems, from concept to production. You will be instrumental in driving innovation, leading a team of engineers, and collaborating with cross-functional departments to achieve ambitious performance targets. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of automotive dynamics, powertrain integration, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of vehicle engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and validation of automotive performance systems, including engine tuning, chassis dynamics, and aerodynamics.
• Manage and mentor a team of performance engineers , providing technical guidance and project oversight.
• Develop and execute test plans for performance validation, including track testing and simulation.
• Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and product planning teams to ensure seamless integration of performance enhancements.
• Analyze test data and simulation results to identify areas for improvement and implement data-driven solutions.
• Stay abreast of emerging automotive technologies and performance trends to maintain a competitive edge.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in automotive performance engineering .
• Demonstrated experience in leading engineering projects and managing technical teams.
• Expertise in vehicle dynamics, powertrain control, and simulation software (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, AVL).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of delivering high-performance solutions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present technical information.
