Lead Bioinformatician

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Bioinformatician for a fully remote role to spearhead their data analysis initiatives. You will be instrumental in designing and implementing robust bioinformatics strategies to interpret large-scale biological datasets, driving significant discoveries. This position offers the unique opportunity to lead a team, mentor junior bioinformaticians, and shape the direction of computational research within the organization, all from your chosen remote location. You will play a critical role in translating complex biological data into actionable insights that inform research and development strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of bioinformatics pipelines for analyzing diverse biological data (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics).
• Manage and mentor a team of bioinformaticians, providing technical guidance and fostering professional development.
• Collaborate with cross-functional research teams to define analytical requirements and translate biological questions into computational approaches.
• Develop and maintain data management strategies to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and security.
• Stay current with cutting-edge advancements in bioinformatics, machine learning, and computational biology, and assess their applicability.
• Communicate complex analytical findings and strategic recommendations to senior management and diverse stakeholders.

Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in bioinformatics, with at least 2 years in a leadership or senior role.
• Expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL, and experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Proven track record of developing and deploying complex bioinformatics pipelines for large-scale data analysis.
• Strong understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning, and algorithm development.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, essential for managing a remote team.
