Lead Character Artist - Game Development

About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Lead Character Artist to guide their character art team in the creation of unforgettable game characters in Bradford . You will be responsible for setting the artistic direction for character design, ensuring the highest standards of quality and visual appeal across all game assets. This role is central to defining the aesthetic identity of our projects within the competitive Arts & Entertainment landscape. We are looking for a visionary artist who can inspire a team, troubleshoot complex artistic challenges, and deliver exceptional results that resonate with players worldwide, from our West Yorkshire studio.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the creation of high-fidelity 3D character models, textures, and materials for game development.
• Establish and maintain the art style and quality bar for all character assets.
• Collaborate with game designers, animators, and technical artists to ensure seamless integration of characters.
• Provide clear direction, feedback, and mentorship to the character art team.
• Oversee the entire character creation pipeline, from concept to in-game implementation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical and artistic issues related to character assets.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in 3D character art for games, with a significant portion in a lead or senior role.
• Expertise in ZBrush, Maya, Substance Painter, and Photoshop.
• Strong understanding of anatomy, form, and visual storytelling through character design.
• Proven ability to lead and inspire a team of artists.
• Experience with PBR workflows and optimizing assets for real-time performance.
• A portfolio showcasing exceptional character models, sculpts, and texturing work.
