Lead Character Artist

About the Role

Our client is looking for an accomplished Lead Character Artist to guide their character art team in Portsmouth . You will be responsible for the artistic vision, quality, and execution of all character assets, ensuring they meet the highest standards of detail and appeal for our projects in the entertainment industry . This hybrid role offers the chance to blend in-studio collaboration with remote flexibility, working on ambitious titles and mentoring a talented group of artists. You will play a critical role in bringing our game's characters to life through exceptional modeling, texturing, and rendering.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of character artists, providing clear direction, feedback, and support.
• Oversee the creation of high-quality 3D character models, including sculpting, retopology, texturing, and rigging.
• Establish and enforce character art style guides and technical requirements.
• Collaborate with art directors, game designers, and animators to ensure character consistency and quality.
• Review and approve character assets, ensuring they align with the project's vision and technical specifications.
• Manage character asset production schedules and ensure timely delivery of assets.

Requirements

• Extensive experience as a Character Artist in the games or entertainment industry, with a significant portion in a lead or senior role.
• A strong portfolio showcasing exceptional 3D character art, including realistic and stylized examples.
• Proficiency in ZBrush, Maya, Substance Painter, and other relevant 3D art software.
• Deep understanding of anatomy, form, proportion, and material definition.
• Experience with game engines and optimizing character assets for real-time performance.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
