Lead Chemical Engineer - Process Development

About the Role

Our client is actively searching for a dedicated Lead Chemical Engineer to spearhead process development initiatives within their state-of-the-art facility in Cardiff . This critical role involves guiding a team of talented engineers in the conceptualisation, design, and implementation of novel chemical processes. You will be responsible for translating laboratory discoveries into commercially viable production methods, ensuring efficiency, safety, and sustainability at every stage. The successful candidate will play a key part in shaping the future of our client's product lines, working within a highly collaborative and forward-thinking research and development environment located in the heart of Wales .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of chemical engineers focused on process development and scale-up from lab to pilot and commercial stages.
• Design, execute, and analyse experiments to optimise chemical reaction pathways, separation techniques, and purification methods.
• Develop detailed process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for new and modified processes.
• Conduct thorough process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement robust safety measures to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
• Collaborate closely with R&D scientists to ensure smooth technology transfer and effective integration into manufacturing operations.
• Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets effectively to ensure timely and cost-efficient project completion.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in Chemical Engineering or a closely related scientific discipline.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in process development, scale-up, and optimisation within the chemical or pharmaceutical industry.
• Strong expertise in reaction engineering, separation technologies, and process modelling software.
• Proven experience in leading technical teams and managing complex R&D projects.
• Excellent understanding of process safety principles, HAZOP analysis, and relevant industry regulations.
