About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Lead Civil Engineer with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering to join their team in Portsmouth . This pivotal role involves leading the geotechnical aspects of major infrastructure projects, providing expert technical direction, and mentoring a team of geotechnicians and engineers. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient design of foundations, earthworks, and retaining structures, ensuring compliance with the highest industry standards. This position offers a dynamic hybrid working model, allowing for effective collaboration and project management across diverse sites and office environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the geotechnical design for a wide range of infrastructure projects, including buildings, bridges, and transport networks.
- Develop comprehensive geotechnical investigation plans and interpret site investigation data.
- Design foundations, retaining walls, slope stability measures, and ground improvement solutions.
- Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, calculations, and design drawings.
- Manage geotechnical aspects of projects, including risk assessment, contractor liaison, and site supervision.
- Provide expert advice on geotechnical issues and mentor junior members of the team.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in geotechnical design and site investigation.
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
- Proficiency in geotechnical design software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio) and relevant modelling techniques.
- Experience in managing projects and leading technical teams.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE) or equivalent professional qualification is preferred.
