Lead Civil Engineer - Transportation Planning

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Civil Engineer to spearhead their Transportation Planning division in Manchester . You will be responsible for shaping the future of urban mobility, overseeing the planning and design of transportation networks, including road systems, public transport infrastructure, and active travel routes. This leadership role involves managing a team of transport planners and engineers, liaising with local authorities and developers, and ensuring projects align with sustainable transport goals and community needs. The ideal candidate will possess a strategic vision and a deep understanding of traffic engineering principles and policy development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design, and implementation of complex transportation infrastructure projects.
• Develop strategic transport plans, traffic models, and feasibility studies for urban and regional developments.
• Oversee traffic impact assessments and design solutions to mitigate congestion and improve road safety.
• Manage and mentor a team of transport engineers and planners, fostering professional growth.
• Engage with key stakeholders, including government agencies, private developers, and community groups, to ensure project success.
• Ensure all transportation designs comply with current national and local policies and standards for sustainable transport.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in transportation engineering and planning, with at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role.
• Extensive knowledge of traffic modeling software, GIS, and transport planning principles.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects from conception to completion.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.
• Membership in a relevant professional institution (e.g., ICE, CIHT) is preferred.
