About the Role
Our client is seeking a visionary Lead Computational Biologist to spearhead their data-driven research initiatives, working entirely remotely. This role is critical for advancing our understanding of complex biological systems through the application of advanced computational and statistical methods. You will lead a team of talented computational biologists, architecting data analysis strategies, developing novel algorithms, and interpreting large-scale biological datasets (genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics) to uncover critical insights. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned leader to define the computational biology roadmap and drive scientific breakthroughs from the comfort of their home office, supporting research efforts with ties to Derby .
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of computational biology projects, from data acquisition to interpretation.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain scalable bioinformatics pipelines and workflows for diverse biological data types.
- Apply advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and AI techniques to analyze complex biological data.
- Collaborate extensively with experimental biologists, geneticists, and bioinformaticians across multiple research sites.
- Mentor and guide junior computational biologists, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of computational biology efforts and the development of novel research hypotheses.
Requirements
- PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in computational biology or bioinformatics research, with a strong publication record.
- Demonstrated experience in leading research projects and managing scientific teams.
- Expertise in programming languages (Python, R) and experience with bioinformatics tools and databases.
- Strong understanding of molecular biology, genetics, and systems biology.
- Proven ability to effectively communicate complex scientific findings to diverse audiences in a remote setting.
