About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Lead Computational Biologist to drive data-driven insights within their innovative R&D department based in Newcastle upon Tyne . You will be instrumental in developing and applying advanced computational and statistical methodologies to analyze large-scale biological datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. This role offers the opportunity to shape the direction of research by extracting actionable intelligence from complex data, fostering a culture of innovation and scientific rigor. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain sophisticated computational pipelines for the analysis of large biological datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics).
- Apply advanced statistical modeling and machine learning techniques to identify patterns, biomarkers, and therapeutic targets.
- Collaborate with experimental teams to design studies, interpret results, and guide future research directions.
- Supervise and mentor a team of computational biologists and bioinformaticians, fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
- Contribute to the development of internal tools and databases for data management and analysis.
- Present complex findings clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- Extensive experience (7+ years) in computational biology, with a significant portion in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics (e.g., Python, R) and experience with high-performance computing environments.
- Deep understanding of statistical methods, machine learning algorithms, and biological data analysis.
- Experience with large-scale biological data types (e.g., NGS, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
