About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Computational Biologist to spearhead their data science initiatives in Newcastle upon Tyne . This crucial role involves developing and implementing advanced computational strategies to analyze large-scale biological datasets, uncovering insights that drive critical research and development decisions. You will lead a talented team of bioinformaticians and data scientists, guiding them in the application of machine learning, statistical modeling, and algorithm development to complex biological problems. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and execution of computational biology projects, including genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data analysis.
- Develop and implement sophisticated algorithms and machine learning models for pattern recognition and predictive analytics in biological data.
- Manage and mentor a team of computational biologists and bioinformaticians, fostering their technical growth and project success.
- Collaborate closely with experimental biologists and clinicians to define research questions and interpret findings.
- Establish best practices for data management, code quality, and computational infrastructure.
- Present research findings to internal stakeholders and at scientific conferences.
Requirements
- PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in computational biology or bioinformatics, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with scientific libraries and frameworks.
- Deep understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning techniques, and their application to biological data.
- Experience with high-performance computing environments and cloud platforms.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences in Newcastle upon Tyne .
