Lead Computational Chemist - ML in Chemistry

About the Role

Our client is seeking a forward-thinking Lead Computational Chemist with a specialization in Machine Learning applications in chemistry, to join their advanced research facility in Liverpool . This leadership role is responsible for driving the integration of ML/AI techniques into the drug discovery workflow, from hit identification to lead optimization. You will guide a team of computational chemists and data scientists, developing novel predictive models and computational strategies that significantly enhance the efficiency and success rate of our discovery programs. This is a crucial position for an expert passionate about the transformative power of AI in chemical sciences.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and application of machine learning models for predictive property assessment, virtual screening, and de novo molecule design.
• Direct computational chemistry efforts in structure-based drug design, molecular dynamics simulations, and quantum mechanical calculations.
• Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists and biologists to integrate computational insights into project strategies.
• Manage and mentor a team of computational chemists, fostering a culture of innovation and scientific excellence.
• Stay at the forefront of advancements in computational chemistry and machine learning, identifying and implementing new technologies for drug discovery in Liverpool .

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Cheminformatics, or a related field with a strong emphasis on ML.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in computational chemistry, with at least 3 years in a leadership or team management capacity.
• Proven expertise in applying machine learning techniques to chemical problems, including model development and validation.
• Proficiency in computational chemistry software (e.g., Schrödinger, MOE) and programming languages like Python.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team in Liverpool .
