About the Role
Our client is seeking a dynamic Lead Computational Chemist to spearhead their molecular modeling and simulation efforts in Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior position will involve leading a small team of scientists in designing novel molecules with desired properties for various applications. You will be at the forefront of applying quantum mechanics and molecular dynamics simulations to accelerate drug discovery and materials science research. This role requires a blend of deep scientific expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of computational chemistry to achieve impactful scientific outcomes within a cutting-edge R&D department.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and execution of molecular modeling and simulation studies using QM/MM and DFT methods.
- Develop and validate predictive models for chemical properties, reaction pathways, and molecular interactions.
- Guide and mentor junior computational chemists, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
- Collaborate with synthetic chemists to design and prioritize synthesis targets based on computational predictions.
- Manage computational resources and software infrastructure, ensuring efficient utilization.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in computational chemistry and integrate new methodologies into the workflow.
Requirements
- PhD in Computational Chemistry , Physical Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in computational chemistry, with a focus on molecular modeling.
- Demonstrated expertise in quantum mechanics, molecular mechanics, and statistical mechanics simulations.
- Proficiency in computational chemistry software packages such as Gaussian, Schrodinger, or AMBER.
- Experience with scripting languages like Python for automation and data analysis.
- Proven leadership experience and excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts.
