About the Role
Our client is seeking an accomplished Lead Controls Engineer with expertise in mechanical systems to join their fully remote, highly innovative team based in Bristol . You will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing sophisticated control systems that enhance the functionality, performance, and automation of complex mechanical products. This role demands a deep understanding of both mechanical engineering principles and advanced control theory, combined with the ability to lead projects and collaborate effectively in a virtual environment. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop embedded control systems, firmware, and software for mechanical applications.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and other control system components into mechanical designs.
- Develop and implement advanced control algorithms (e.g., PID, adaptive control, model predictive control).
- Perform system-level testing, simulation, and validation of control systems, ensuring performance and safety requirements are met.
- Lead and mentor a team of controls engineers, providing technical guidance and project oversight in a remote setting.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to ensure seamless system integration.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on control systems.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in designing and implementing control systems for mechanical applications.
- Expertise in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, and experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Strong knowledge of control theory, system dynamics, and mechatronics.
- Proven experience with simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and remote communication skills.
