Lead Data Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Lead Data Engineer to join their analytics team in Oxford . This role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. You will lead a team of data engineers, mentor them on best practices, and work closely with data scientists and analysts to ensure data accessibility and quality. We are looking for a strategic thinker passionate about data architecture and infrastructure, ready to contribute to a collaborative environment with a hybrid working model.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize robust and scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
• Build and manage data warehousing solutions and data lakes to support analytical and reporting needs.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and reliability throughout the data lifecycle.
• Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand data requirements and provide solutions.
• Lead and mentor junior data engineers, promoting best practices in data engineering and architecture.
• Evaluate and implement new data technologies and tools to enhance data infrastructure capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering.
• Proven experience designing and building complex data pipelines using tools like Apache Spark, Kafka, or Airflow.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with various database technologies (relational and NoSQL).
• Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data warehousing solutions.
• Familiarity with data governance and data quality best practices.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with experience working in a hybrid setup in Oxford .
