About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Data Scientist to head their machine learning initiatives in Birmingham . You will lead a team of talented data scientists and engineers, guiding the development and deployment of sophisticated predictive models and AI-driven solutions. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong leadership skills to drive data science projects from conception to production. You will work closely with business stakeholders to identify opportunities where data science can deliver significant value, foster innovation within the team, and contribute to the company's data-centric strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of machine learning models and algorithms.
- Mentor and guide a team of data scientists, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to integrate ML solutions into production systems.
- Define key metrics and evaluate the performance and impact of ML models.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in machine learning and AI, and advocate for their adoption.
- Communicate complex findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Requirements
- Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- 7+ years of experience in data science, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of developing and deploying machine learning models in a production environment.
- Expertise in Python or R, and libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Strong understanding of statistical modeling, experimental design, and data mining techniques.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
