About the Role
Our client seeks a highly motivated and experienced Lead Drilling Engineer to oversee drilling operations for their projects in and around Birmingham . This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of all drilling campaigns. You will lead a team of drilling engineers, manage contracts with service providers, and implement innovative drilling technologies. This position is ideal for a seasoned professional looking to make a significant impact on challenging projects within the UK energy sector , contributing to operational excellence and the safe extraction of resources, while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and execute complex drilling programs, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Supervise drilling operations on-site and remotely, providing technical expertise and problem-solving support.
- Manage drilling budgets, track expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or performance.
- Oversee the selection and performance of drilling equipment and service providers.
- Mentor and develop junior drilling engineering staff, fostering a high-performance team environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Over 10 years of progressive experience in drilling engineering, with a proven track record of leadership.
- Expertise in drilling fluid design, cementing, well control, and directional drilling.
- Strong understanding of HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality) standards and practices.
- Experience managing drilling contracts and service company relationships in the Birmingham region.
