Lead Drilling Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly experienced and safety-conscious Lead Drilling Engineer to oversee drilling operations for projects based out of Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is crucial for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of drilling campaigns. You will be responsible for planning, designing, and supervising all aspects of drilling operations, from well design to execution, ensuring adherence to the highest safety standards and environmental regulations. The successful candidate will lead a team of drilling engineers and interface with various technical disciplines and contractors to achieve project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive drilling plans and programs, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Design well trajectories, select appropriate casing and cement programs, and specify drilling fluids.
• Manage drilling operations, including rig selection, contractor oversight, and daily progress reporting.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for drilling hazards.
• Optimize drilling performance, reduce non-productive time (NPT), and manage drilling budgets effectively.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the drilling engineering team.

Requirements

• Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in drilling engineering, with a significant portion in a lead or supervisory role.
• Proven track record in planning and executing complex offshore and onshore drilling operations .
• In-depth knowledge of drilling equipment, well control principles, and directional drilling techniques.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., API, HSE).
• Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
