Lead Drilling Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and results-oriented Lead Drilling Engineer to spearhead their drilling operations in the Newcastle upon Tyne area. This senior position demands a strategic thinker capable of overseeing complex drilling campaigns, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. You will lead a team of drilling engineers, manage relationships with service providers, and drive the implementation of innovative drilling technologies. This role is crucial for optimizing our drilling performance and achieving ambitious production targets within the challenging Oil & Gas sector .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute detailed drilling plans, including well design, casing programs, and cementing strategies for onshore and offshore wells.
• Oversee daily drilling operations, monitor progress, and address any technical challenges or safety incidents promptly.
• Manage relationships with drilling contractors and service providers, ensuring adherence to contract specifications and performance standards.
• Conduct post-well analysis to identify lessons learned and implement improvements for future operations.
• Lead and mentor a team of drilling engineers, fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in drilling engineering , with significant leadership responsibilities.
• Proven track record in managing complex drilling projects in diverse geological environments.
• In-depth knowledge of drilling fluids, well control, directional drilling, and cementing practices.
• Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
