Lead Electrical Automation Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive Lead Electrical Automation Engineer to join their team in Reading . This role is pivotal in overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of automated electrical systems across their operations. You will lead a team of automation engineers, ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and safety of production processes through advanced control solutions. The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise in automation technologies, excellent leadership qualities, and a commitment to continuous improvement, working from our facilities in Reading with the flexibility of a hybrid model.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, programming, and commissioning of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for industrial automation.
• Manage automation projects from concept through to successful implementation, including budget and resource planning.
• Develop and maintain electrical control panel designs and schematics.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation system issues, minimizing downtime.
• Mentor and guide junior automation engineers, fostering skill development and best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize automated processes and implement new technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Substantial experience (6+ years) in electrical automation engineering, including PLC/HMI programming (Siemens, Rockwell).
• Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing automation projects.
• Strong understanding of industrial networks, robotics, and motion control.
• Familiarity with safety standards for industrial automation (e.g., ISO 13849).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
