About the Role
Our client, a major contractor involved in the design and construction of critical energy infrastructure , is seeking a talented Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Sunderland . This leadership role is central to delivering innovative and reliable electrical systems for a variety of projects, including power generation facilities and substations. You will be responsible for leading a team of electrical engineers, overseeing the entire design process from conceptualization to detailed schematics and specifications. The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise in electrical engineering principles and a proven ability to manage complex projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and budgetary requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of electrical systems for power projects, including substation design and distribution networks.
- Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers, providing technical oversight and guidance.
- Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment specifications.
- Conduct electrical load calculations, fault level studies, and protection system design .
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and project specifications.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, procurement, and construction teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
Requirements
- BEng or MEng in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Significant experience (minimum 8 years) as an Electrical Design Engineer , with a focus on the energy sector.
- Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of power system analysis, protection, and control systems.
- Demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams and managing design projects.
