Job Description
Lead Electrical Design Engineer
A leading UK manufacturer in the premium marine sector is hiring a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join its in-house design team on a permanent basis. This role would suit an experienced electrical design engineer from marine, automotive, motorsport, aerospace, off-highway or other complex engineered products, who enjoys owning design output from concept through to production support.
The opportunity
You'll lead the delivery of detailed electrical design information for high-value products, supporting build, change control, and continuous improvement. This is a technical, detail-driven role where your drawings and schedules directly support production.
Key responsibilities
Own and maintain electrical design standards across the product range Produce, check, update and issue 2D electrical schematics and panel drawings (AutoCAD) Create accurate cable/harness routing schedules, aligned to installation and manufacturing constraints Lead and manage the design change request / engineering change process for electrical design Deliver design packs to agreed timescales and quality standards Work closely with Production, Engineering and Supply Chain to ensure designs are buildable and consistent Contribute to continuous improvement, value engineering and R&D activity
Essential skills & experience
Strong background in electrical design engineering (AC/DC systems) within a relevant engineering environment Confident producing detailed 2D CAD electrical drawings (AutoCAD preferred) Good understanding of design-for-manufacture / design-for-installation principles Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities Confident communicator who can collaborate across design, production and supply chain teams Competent with MS Office (Excel/Word/Outlook)
Desirable
Experience in marine electrical systems or small craft installation practices Digital switching / networked control systems experience Lighting systems integration experience Exposure to hybrid / electrified systems 18th Edition wiring regulations (or equivalent)
