Lead Game Designer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and creative Lead Game Designer to join their studio in Bradford . You will play a key role in shaping the player experience across our diverse range of interactive titles. This position involves leading the design team, defining core gameplay mechanics, systems, and progression, and ensuring a cohesive and engaging player journey from start to finish. You will collaborate closely with other department leads, producers, and engineers to translate creative vision into tangible, fun, and innovative gameplay experiences, fostering a culture of iterative design and player-centric development within a hybrid work setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the game design team in conceptualizing, defining, and documenting core game mechanics, systems, and content.
• Oversee the development and implementation of engaging gameplay loops, player progression, and balance across all game modes.
• Collaborate with narrative and level designers to ensure a cohesive and compelling player experience.
• Work closely with engineers to prototype, iterate on, and implement game features.
• Mentor junior designers, provide constructive feedback, and foster a collaborative and innovative design environment.
• Contribute to player testing and feedback analysis to refine gameplay mechanics and ensure maximum engagement.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in game design , with a significant portion in a lead or senior role.
• Proven ability to design compelling core gameplay mechanics and complex game systems.
• Strong understanding of player psychology, game balance, and progression systems.
• Experience with game design documentation tools (e.g., Confluence, Miro) and game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and team collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a hybrid work model, balancing on-site and remote collaboration.
