Lead Game Designer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Game Designer to guide the development of exciting new interactive entertainment experiences. Based in our Sheffield studio with a hybrid working arrangement, you will be instrumental in defining the core gameplay mechanics, player progression, and overall vision for our games. You will lead a talented team of designers, collaborate closely with artists and engineers, and ensure the creation of engaging, innovative, and fun gaming experiences that resonate with a global audience. This is a key role for someone passionate about shaping the future of interactive entertainment.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and document the core game design pillars, mechanics, systems, and player experience.
• Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of game designers, fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
• Work closely with other department leads (art, engineering, production) to ensure a cohesive and high-quality game product.
• Oversee the implementation of game design features, providing clear direction and feedback throughout the development cycle.
• Conduct playtesting sessions and analyze player feedback to iterate and improve game design.
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and player expectations in the gaming landscape.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in game design, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior role.
• A strong portfolio showcasing successful game design contributions on shipped titles.
• Proven ability to design and document complex game mechanics, systems, and player progression.
• Experience with game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine) and scripting languages is a plus.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Deep understanding of player psychology, engagement loops, and game balance.
