About the Role
Our client, a renowned game development studio, is seeking an experienced Lead Game Designer to shape the future of their exciting new project based in Newcastle upon Tyne . You will be instrumental in defining and driving the core gameplay mechanics, systems, and overall player experience. This role requires a visionary leader who can inspire a team of talented designers, collaborate effectively with cross-functional departments, and translate creative concepts into compelling and engaging gameplay. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of our titles, contributing to a studio culture that values innovation, player-centric design, and collaborative problem-solving in a dynamic hybrid work setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of game designers, providing clear direction, constructive feedback, and fostering professional growth.
- Design and document core gameplay systems, mechanics, and player progression loops that are innovative and engaging.
- Collaborate closely with art, programming, and production teams to ensure design vision is effectively implemented.
- Oversee the creation of game design documents (GDDs), wireframes, and flowcharts to communicate design intent clearly.
- Conduct playtesting sessions, analyze player feedback, and iterate on designs to enhance the overall gameplay experience.
Requirements
- Extensive experience (7+ years) in game design, with a proven track record of shipping successful titles.
- Demonstrable experience in a Lead Game Designer or similar leadership role.
- Deep understanding of game mechanics , level design principles, and player psychology.
- Proficiency in game design documentation and prototyping tools.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team collaboration skills , adaptable to a hybrid work model.
