Lead Geoscientist - Exploration

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Geoscientist to spearhead exploration activities for their operations in Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior position will play a crucial role in identifying and evaluating new prospective areas for hydrocarbon exploration, leveraging cutting-edge geophysical and geological techniques. You will lead a team of geoscientists, providing technical guidance and ensuring the robust interpretation of seismic and well data to support strategic business decisions within the energy industry . Key Responsibilities

• Lead the geological and geophysical interpretation of seismic data to identify potential exploration targets.
• Develop and manage exploration prospect inventory and associated risk assessments.
• Oversee the planning and execution of exploration well programs, from conception to post-drilling analysis.
• Collaborate with reservoir engineers and management to integrate subsurface data for optimal field development planning.
• Mentor and guide junior geoscientists, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and methodologies in geoscience exploration .

Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in exploration geosciences , with a proven track record of successful prospect generation.
• Expertise in seismic data interpretation, attribute analysis, and basin modelling.
• Strong knowledge of structural geology , stratigraphy, and depositional environments.
• Experience with geological and geophysical software packages (e.g., Kingdom Suite, Petrel).
• Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Geology, Geophysics, or a related earth science discipline.
