Lead Industrial Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and dynamic Lead Industrial Engineer to oversee and guide their engineering team in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, UK . This senior position is responsible for setting the strategic direction for process improvement, operational efficiency, and productivity enhancements across the organisation. You will be a key influencer, working closely with senior management to develop and implement long-term engineering strategies. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership qualities, a deep understanding of industrial engineering principles, and a proven ability to manage complex projects and guide a team of engineers to achieve ambitious operational goals, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of industrial engineers, fostering professional growth and high performance.
• Develop and implement strategic process optimisation plans and operational excellence programs.
• Oversee the design and improvement of manufacturing processes, facility layouts, and material handling systems.
• Drive the adoption of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies across all operational areas.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective integration of engineering initiatives with business objectives.
• Conduct feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments for proposed engineering projects.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Industrial Engineering or a closely related technical field.
• Over 8 years of progressive experience in industrial engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Extensive knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma (Black Belt preferred), and other continuous improvement frameworks.
• Proven experience in managing large-scale engineering projects from conception to completion.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Expertise in process simulation and data analysis software.
