About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and creative Lead Level Designer to guide their design team in Plymouth . This role is critical in shaping the player's journey through our game worlds, designing engaging environments that facilitate compelling gameplay, storytelling, and exploration. You will be responsible for the overall vision and execution of level design, mentoring junior designers, and collaborating closely with engineers, artists, and narrative teams. Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement engaging, intuitive, and fun level layouts that support gameplay mechanics and narrative.
- Lead and mentor a team of level designers, providing feedback, guidance, and direction.
- Collaborate with narrative designers, artists, and programmers to ensure seamless integration of gameplay, story, and visuals.
- Create documentation, blockouts, and prototypes for levels, iterating based on feedback and playtesting.
- Ensure levels are technically sound, performant, and meet the project's quality standards.
- Champion best practices in level design and contribute to the overall design direction of the project.
Requirements
- Significant professional experience as a Level Designer , with a strong portfolio showcasing shipped titles or equivalent projects.
- Proven experience in a lead or senior role, with demonstrated leadership and mentorship abilities.
- Proficiency with industry-standard level editing tools and game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
- Strong understanding of spatial design, pacing, player flow, and encounter design.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and contribute creatively in our Plymouth studio.
