Lead Mechanical Engineer - Automotive

About the Role

Our client seeks a highly experienced and results-oriented Lead Mechanical Engineer specializing in the automotive sector for their facility in Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior role involves guiding a team of engineers in the design, development, and validation of critical automotive mechanical systems. You will be instrumental in setting technical direction, ensuring project milestones are met, and fostering an environment of innovation and quality. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the company's automotive engineering capabilities in the Tyne and Wear region.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers in the design and development of automotive powertrain components and systems.
• Oversee the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to validation and production launch.
• Develop and implement robust engineering processes and best practices for mechanical design and analysis.
• Conduct and review computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) for performance and durability assessments.
• Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are cost-effective and manufacturable.
• Present technical proposals, design reviews, and project status updates to senior management and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Over 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the automotive industry .
• Proven expertise in automotive powertrain or chassis systems design.
• In-depth knowledge of FEA and CFD tools and methodologies.
• Experience with automotive standards (e.g., ISO/TS 16949) and regulatory requirements.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving capabilities.
