About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Mechanical Engineer to spearhead research and development initiatives from their Belfast location. This senior role involves guiding a team of engineers in the conceptualisation and development of groundbreaking new products and technologies. The position offers a hybrid working model, promoting collaboration and innovation through a mix of on-site engagement and remote flexibility. You will be instrumental in defining technical strategies, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring that R&D projects align with the company's strategic goals, fostering a culture of discovery and technical leadership within the engineering department.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers in the R&D department, fostering a culture of innovation and high performance.
- Drive the development of novel mechanical concepts and prototypes from initial ideation through to proof-of-concept stages.
- Oversee the design, analysis, and testing of new mechanical systems, ensuring they meet challenging technical specifications and project timelines.
- Collaborate with product management, marketing, and other engineering disciplines to define R&D roadmaps and project requirements.
- Conduct in-depth feasibility studies and technical assessments for new product ideas and emerging technologies.
- Contribute to intellectual property generation through patent filings and technical publications, representing the company's R&D capabilities.
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related advanced technical field.
- Significant experience (8+ years) in mechanical engineering, with a strong track record in research and development .
- Proven experience in leading engineering teams and managing R&D projects from inception to completion.
- Expertise in advanced mechanical design principles , materials science, and engineering analysis techniques (FEA, CFD).
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping technologies and experimental validation methodologies.
- Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and leadership skills, suitable for a hybrid working environment.
