About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished and visionary Lead Mechanical Engineer to spearhead their design and development efforts, operating entirely remotely, with strong ties to the Portsmouth region. This senior role requires a candidate with exceptional leadership capabilities and a proven history of successfully managing complex mechanical engineering projects from inception to market launch. You will be instrumental in shaping the technical direction, mentoring a distributed team of engineers, and driving innovation in product design and performance. Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and direction for the mechanical engineering team, overseeing all design and development activities.
• Manage the full lifecycle of mechanical product development, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and budget.
• Develop innovative mechanical concepts and solutions, utilizing advanced 3D CAD and simulation tools for design validation.
• Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams, including software, hardware, and product management, through virtual communication channels.
• Establish and enforce best practices for design, analysis, testing, and documentation within the engineering department.
• Mentor and guide junior and senior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
• Expertise in advanced CAD software (e.g., Creo , SolidWorks) and FEA/CFD analysis tools.
• Demonstrated success in leading the development of complex, high-performance mechanical systems.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and remote team management skills.
• Proven ability to drive strategic technical decisions and foster innovation.
