About the Role
Our client is actively recruiting a talented Lead Medicinal Chemist to spearhead innovative drug discovery programs within their state-of-the-art research facility in Coventry . You will be responsible for the design, synthesis, and optimization of novel small molecules with therapeutic potential, guiding a team of chemists towards achieving critical project milestones. This role is central to translating early-stage biological concepts into viable drug candidates, requiring a deep understanding of structure-activity relationships and synthetic strategies. The successful candidate will thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, contributing their expertise to push the boundaries of pharmaceutical science and develop life-changing medicines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and synthesis of novel chemical entities targeting specific disease pathways.
- Oversee and guide the work of a team of medicinal chemists, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality results.
- Develop and implement innovative synthetic routes and purification techniques.
- Conduct detailed structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis and utilize computational tools to guide compound optimization.
- Collaborate closely with biologists, pharmacologists, and DMPK scientists to advance projects from hit-to-lead and lead optimization stages.
Requirements
- PhD in Medicinal Chemistry or Organic Chemistry with significant medicinal chemistry experience.
- Demonstrated track record of success in drug discovery, evidenced by patents and publications.
- Extensive experience in synthetic organic chemistry, including modern reaction methodologies and purification techniques.
- Strong understanding of drug discovery principles, including ADME/Tox considerations and target validation.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with excellent communication abilities.
