Lead Process Development Scientist

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Lead Process Development Scientist to drive innovation in their chemical manufacturing operations in Sheffield . This senior role involves the development, optimization, and scale-up of robust chemical processes for the production of new chemical entities. You will lead a team of scientists and engineers, ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemical engineering or organic chemistry, combined with significant experience in process development and scale-up, and excellent leadership skills. This is a vital role in bringing new products from laboratory discovery to commercial production.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimization of chemical synthesis routes for manufacturing scale.
• Design and execute experiments to understand process parameters and identify critical control points.
• Conduct process safety assessments and implement measures to ensure safe operations.
• Oversee the scale-up of chemical processes from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial scale.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered during process development and manufacturing.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality control, and regulatory affairs teams to ensure compliance and successful technology transfer.

Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering , Organic Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process development and scale-up within the chemical or pharmaceutical industry.
• Strong understanding of reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and mass transfer principles.
• Experience with process safety evaluations (e.g., HAZOP).
• Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of scientists and technicians.
• Excellent project management and communication skills, with experience in technology transfer.
