About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Process Safety Engineer to champion safety initiatives and ensure operational integrity within their facilities located in the Coventry area. This senior position involves the development, implementation, and oversight of robust process safety management systems to prevent major accidents and protect personnel, the environment, and assets. You will lead a team of safety professionals, providing expert guidance on HAZOPs, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance. This role is crucial for maintaining our commitment to the highest standards of safety performance across all operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs in line with industry best practices and regulations.
- Lead and facilitate process hazard analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP , LOPA, and SIL assessments.
- Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation and company standards.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on safety aspects of project design , modification, and operational changes.
- Mentor and develop junior process safety engineers and foster a strong safety culture across the organization.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 8 years' experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the oil and gas or chemical industries.
- Demonstrable expertise in HAZOP facilitation , risk assessment methodologies, and safety case development.
- Thorough understanding of international process safety standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, Seveso Directive).
- Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
- Chartered Engineer status (e.g., CEng IChemE) is highly desirable.
