About the Role

Our client is searching for a highly skilled and imaginative Lead Scenic Artist to join their production team in Reading . This role is responsible for bringing theatrical sets to life through expert painting and finishing techniques. You will work closely with the set designer to interpret the visual aesthetic of a production, manage the scenic art studio, and guide a team of scenic artists to achieve high-quality results. Key Responsibilities

• Execute high-quality scenic painting and finishing for stage sets, adhering to designer specifications.
• Mix paints and create custom color palettes to match desired textures and effects.
• Manage the scenic art studio, ensuring a safe and organized working environment.
• Supervise and mentor junior scenic artists, providing technical guidance and feedback.
• Estimate material costs and manage the budget for scenic art supplies.
• Collaborate with the technical director and other designers on production timelines and feasibility.

Requirements

• Extensive experience as a Scenic Artist in professional theatre, film, or television.
• Proficiency in a wide range of painting techniques, including faux finishes, aging, and texturing.
• Strong understanding of color theory and its application in scenic design.
• Experience managing a small team and production schedules.
• Ability to interpret and execute designs from technical drawings and renderings.
